The Saints Are Up
02:43
|
|||
Verse 1
Shots will be poured and the beer it will flow
By the end of tonight the legend will grow
Of a band of tinkers all ragged and torn
Who came to rock the stage until the early morn
Chorus
Raise the blue raise the green and all the colors in between
Sing along, sing it loud, 'cuz we’re Celtic and we're proud
Raise a shot, raise a pint, put your arms around your mate
'cuz we're the noisy drunken bastards called the Kilmaine Saints
Verse 2
Well we won’t go home ‘till you empty your glass
If you like what you hear, then get up off your ass
You buy us a round and the town we will paint
This night it was rocked by the Kilmaine Saints
Chorus

My Island
02:26
|
|||
Verse 1
When I was just a young boy my mother said to me
There's no work here for your father but there are jobs across the sea
So I packed up all my memories and my tattered little bear
And as we started 'cross the ocean, my father said this prayer
Chorus
So when my time on earth has come and gone
Take me back where I belong
Set my ashes free to fly the ocean winds
And when they've landed on the shore
They'll be far away no more
From the rolling green island I call home
Verse 2
When I'd become a grown man with a family of my own
I'd taught them the traditions of the place I call my home
We're proud of where we come from even though a lot has changed
Though not always for the better, but it's where my heart remains
Chorus
Verse 3
Now that I'm an old man and my hair is turning white
All the strength has left my hands, each breath seems like a fight
But I live inside my memories of mountains, streams and trees
And those dreams are what carry me to my eternal sleep

Whiskey in the Jar
03:19
|
|||
Verse 1
As I was going over the far famed Kerry mountains
I met with Captain Farrell and his money he was count'n
I first produced me pistol, and I then produced me rapier
I said stand and deliver for you are a bold deceiver
Chorus
Musha ring uma du uma da
Whack fol the daddy o
Whack fol the daddy o
There's whiskey in the jar
Verse 2
I counted out his money and it made a pretty penny
So I put it in me pocket and I took it home to Jenny
She sighed and she swore that she never would deceive me
But the devil take the women for they never can be easy
Chorus
Verse 3
And if anyone can aid me, it’s me brother in the army
If I could find his station in Cork or in Killarney
And if he'll go with me we'll go roving through Kilkenny
I'm sure he'll treat me better than me own dear sporting Jenny
Chorus
Verse 4
Some take delight in the carriages a’rolling
And others take delight in the hurling and the bowling
But I take delight in the juice of the barley
And court’n pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early
Chorus

Farewell, Self Esteem
02:46
|
|||
Chorus
It took all the strength I had just to get my ass up out of bed
My head was beating like the drums I played the night before
Stick my finger down my throat, drink some coffee, grab my coat
And head on out the door to see what's waiting there for me
And head on out the door to see what's waiting there for me
Verse 1
Another sun comes up without a lover in my bed
Was what we had for real or did I make it up instead?
Afraid to turn the lights on and realize you're gone
But the strumming, thumping, beating in my heart continues on
Bridge
Now I start to look inside me and I think of how I'll be
When I get to the point where I'm no longer hating me
For letting you slip through my hands and go you own damn way
So I'll down a pint or three or twelve like I did yesterday
Chorus
Verse 2
Another sun comes up with my head against the floor
What happened after whiskey streams, not roving anymore?
What happened to my socks and shoes, my wallet and my keys?
Would someone like to tell me why I keep doing this to me?
Bridge
Chorus

Gold and Guns
04:20
|
|||
Verse 1
With cross in hand they rode the land from the cliffs to the foreign shores
No bible verse could save the worst from the fields of blood and gore
Thou shalt not kill for it is God's will, a crusade for conformity
Spare not the man nor woman or child, who’s not on bended knee
Chorus
Gold and Guns will get the job done
They're coming for your share so you better well run
It’s not what they say, It’s not what they said
Why they make their living from the dead
Verse 2
With a love for the crown that knows no bounds, steal the food from the children's hand
They did it for the crown, they did it for the flag, the crime against their fellow man
A living hell no man could tell, a plate filled with only kale
One million fled, one million starved, one million lived to tell the tale
Chorus
Verse 3
White blood spills on Red land but the colors never blend
For some it was the beginning, others it was the end
With lies and guns and whiskey, they paved the trail of tears
Freedom for the ones with flags, fences for the ones they feared
Chorus
Verse 4
A circle is never broken, if you never see the end
Brothers who’ve never spoken can turn foe into a friend
Through centuries of humanity still stands the Golden Rule
That gold and guns will get the job done to take your heart and soul
Chorus

Wearing of the Green
03:42
|
|||
Verse 1
Oh! Paddy dear, and did you hear the news that's going ‘round?
The Shamrock has been forbid to grow on Irish ground!
St. Patrick's day no more we'll keep, his color can't be seen
For there's a bloody law against the Wearing of the Green!
I met with Napper Tandy and he took me by the hand
He asked “How is poor Ireland, and how does she stand?”
She's the most distressful country that you have ever seen
They’re hanging men and women for the Wearing of the Green!
Verse 2
And if the color we should wear is England's cruel red
Then Ireland's sons will not forget the blood that has been shed
You can take the Shamrock from your hat, and throw it on the sod
It will take root, and flourish still, tho' under foot 'tis trod
When the law can stop the blades of grass from growing as they grow
And when the leaves in Summer time, their verdure dare not show
Then I will change the color I wear in my caubeen
Until that day I'll stick aye to Wearing of the Green!
Verse 3
And if that color should be torn from dear auld Ireland's heart
Her sons with shame and sorrow, from the dear auld soil depart
I've heard whisper of a land that lies beyond sea
Where rich and poor stand equal, in the light of Freedom's day!
O Erin! must we leave this place driven by a tyrant's hand?
Must we ask a Mother's blessing, in a strange and foreign land?
Where the cruel Cross of England's thralldom never shall be seen
Well thank God we can live and die, still Wearing of the Green!

Ten Fathoms Deep
03:50
|
|||
Verse 1
In 1724 I was pressed into the service
On a ten gun sloop called Ranger I toasted Bloody Jack
At the age of seventeen, my first man I did murder
One swift pull of the trigger, I’d shot him in the back
Chorus
We set a course for murder as we hoisted up our sails
And in our wake we left a bloody swell
No quarter and no mercy as we fired off our guns
Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell
Verse 2
We took a British trader bound for the Bahamas
We raised our bloody standard as we fired across his bow
The captain hove-to quickly and he gave up all his secrets
We relieved him of his cargo and his vengeance he avowed
Chorus
Bridge
The cannon fires through our bow I pray that Davy don’t take me now
I hold my last breath anyhow to meet my watery grave
The ocean seems to hold its breath as fifty men prepare for death
Clinging to the rigging is no place for the brave
Verse 3
The ship explodes around us in a hail of blood and timber
We resigned our souls to Neptune as we floated there for days
Rescued by a merchant bound for the Tortolas
We thanked the crew sincerely at the point of our blades
Chorus
Saints & sinners will know us well by the trail of dead left in our swell
No quarter or no mercy it's ten fathoms deep to hell

Painting Paradise Square
04:37
|
|||
Verse 1
We sailed away from Galway Bay in the darkest of the 40's
No regrets, no looking back, I don't need the misery
The ill and dead surround us as we cross the fierce Atlantic
What kept me going was a brand new start for me and my family
When we landed in Amerikay, the know-nothings didn't want us
“Nativists” my-ass, you just landed before me
We moved into a tenement in what was called the Five Points
It's called Paradise Square, but it smells like hell to me
Chorus
I suffered to get here and I’m not going to leave
And if you knock me down, you'd best be sure I'm dead
'Cause when I get back on me feet, and I promise you that I will
I'll steal your life and use your blood to paint Paradise Square!
Verse 2
Well me dear auld husband’s dead and gone, it's going on three years now
He worked his fingers to the bone, then he worked himself to death
He fought to make a better life for me and his dear children
When chasing down your dreams there's no such thing as rest
So now it's up to me to keep our dreams alive
The boys are far too young to work, but old enough to steal
I cooked, I cleaned, I'd watch your kids, I’d even do the washing
But I fell down the stairs in the tenement square, now the boys look after me
Chorus
Verse 3
Well mammy's dead and it's been a long time since me da has left the living
Me brothers have all since moved out to start their families
There's not much left for me in this place so I guess I'll seek me fortune
I'll go and join the Union side and fight for this country
It's hard to want to die for a land that doesn't want me
But harder yet to work the mills and mines and factories
But if I make it home alive, well then I'll know I've won
The battle to find a place in this world for me own
Chorus

The Leaving of Liverpool
03:01
|
|||
Verse 1
Well fare thee well to you, my own true love
well I’m going far away
I’m bound for California
And I know that I’ll return some day
Chorus
So fare thee well, my own true love
when I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
but my darling when I think of thee
Verse 2
I'm off to California
By way of stormy Cape Horn
And I will send a letter, my love
When I am homeward bound
Chorus
Verse 3
I sail on a Yankee sailing clip
Davy Crockett is her name
And Burgess is the captain of her
And they say that she’s a floating hell
Chorus
Verse 4
Oh the sun is on the harbor now
And I wish that I could remain
For I know it will be a long, long time
Before I see you again
Chorus

Verse 1
Well I lost my Mum in a Dublin fire
My Dad don’t call on the telephone wire
My Brother’s now a girl and he’s running amok
I’m an Irish boy and I have no luck
Verse 2
Well I lost me job and apartment too
My Sheila called and said we’re through
The dog ate the cat and the cat ate the duck
I’m an Irish boy and I have no luck

My friends at the pub say I drink too much
'cuz I swagger out the door while leanin' on my crutch
I’d give it all away if I only had a buck
I’m an Irish boy and I have no luck

A rabbit's foot is lucky I’m told

Póg Mo Thóin
05:43
|
|||
Verse 1
It’s Saturday night and we’re playing a show
One shot of whiskey, one foot out the door
I kiss the kids goodbye and I hop in the car
But when your battery’s dead you don’t make it too far
Verse 2
Get to the gig about one hour late
The gear’s all loaded and the bands in a state
The lead cut his thumb and the fiddler’s sick
The pipers are drunk and the drummer’s a...
Chorus
Póg Mo Thóin to the boys in the band
as I sip black and tan
So sing along and raise up your glass
Póg Mo Thóin, they can all kiss my ass
Verse 3
We start the 1st set & the club is half full
Everyone is sitting on chairs and bar stools
There’s one girl dancing, she knows all our words
To hell with the rest of ya’, I’m singing for her
Verse 4
We play our new song and the bass starts too fast
Accordion gets lost and the banjo sounds flat
I start the 4th verse, forget half the words
So I sing anyway, it goes “something something...”
Chorus
Póg Mo Thóin to the slugs at the bar
Póg Mo Thóin you know who you are
A wink your way as I raise up my glass
Póg Mo Thóin, you can all kiss my ass
Verse 5
We end the show, say goodbye to the crowd
The manager tells us “you played WAY too loud!
You drove off my patrons, drank 33 pints
You’ll get no more pay, so piss off and good night”
Verse 6
It’s 4 AM as I walk through the door
I’m smelling quite rank as I strip to the floor
I crawl into bed, hold my beautiful wife
Then she pushes me away as she twists the last knife
Chorus
Póg Mo Thóin, were you swimming in beer?!
You smell like a bum, don’t you even come near!
Póg Mo Thóin, turn off that damn light
So Póg Mo Thóin, kiss my ass and good night!!
